How You See It 2013

How You See It (2013) was a series of oil paintings produced to express negative body image and low self esteem. Many of the oil paintings were produced as experiments with how colour can be painted, and was a way of Laura understanding colour and the effects colour can have on a painting.

Body image and low self esteem was a subject matter Laura felt strongly about as she believes young women are continually battling against what is seen as the 'perfect' body, smile, eyes, hair, legs etc. The way women are portrayed and expressed in magazines/internet/social media, is having a huge impact on children and young adults growing up, feeling like they have to compete with women that are altered and photoshoppped, when in reality they are more 'normal' than what appears.
